Shelly and Sands, Inc. purchased its first ever and the first ever sold in Ohio Wirtgen slip form barrier wall machine after a successful demonstration to replace an aging machine. The Wirtgen slip form barrier wall 4 track machine model SP25 was put to work first on I-70 in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
The SP25 easily slipformed a 60” high barrier wall on Beaver Excavating’s ODOT project. The mix was supplied by Tri-son Concrete and was dry batched and dispatched through transit mixers and introduced into the auger feed system that was provided at the time of the demonstration. It was later swapped out for a bi fold conveyor feed system that unloaded dry batch mixed concrete quicker into the mold. The folding conveyor gives easier placement of the machine when hauling from job to job. Foreman on the job Chris Stillion commented on how smooth the propel system was compared to other machines he uses. The operator of the machine likes the visibility from the operators control station and its smoothness when pouring dry mixes such as barrier wall mix designs.
